Provider Central Michigan Univ. Off-Campus Programs - Troy
Date of last update 10/2/2009
Description Online certificate program designed to provide training in the principle components of home inspection procedures and processes. Students learn how to create a home inspection report that will detail the home’s condition including the heating and cooling systems, the plumbing and electrical systems, the roof and siding and the framing and foundation. Online program is provided through the National Institute of Building Inspectors (NIBI©). Individual lessons of the Home Inspection Course have received credits or approval from various organization and government entities; The American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), the National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI), the California Real Estate Inspectors Associations (CREIA), and others for membership renewal credits or continuing education credits. This online course consists of an introductory lesson and 11 technical units in this offering. All lessons start with detailed information on residential construction, including basic building design and construction materials and practices. The focus of all units, however, is on home inspection – including: standards of practice, defects recognition, inspection guidelines, and reporting methodologies. Each unit also includes appendices containing extensive glossaries, reference articles, inspection procedure lists, and common defect lists. While the Home Inspection program can be taken by students in any state, some states have home inspector licensing and/or registration laws that require classroom components for most license or registration applicants. Students are advised to check individual state requirements for home inspection professionals. The target audience is individuals interested in learning job skills for a career in home inspection services or anyone who desires job skills required to work in the residential appraisals, construction or consumer business industry. Please call 1-800-950-1144 Ext.7141 for more information.
